Gluten-Free Apple Crumble

This gluten-free apple crumble is pure comfort in a bowl. Soft, cinnamon-spiced apples topped with a buttery, golden crumble that’s perfectly crisp.

The best part? It’s incredibly simple to make and completely coeliac-safe, proving gluten-free baking doesn’t mean missing out on flavour or texture. Serve it warm with a generous scoop of ice cream or cream, or really treat yourself and go for both!

Ingredients

  • Apple Base
  • 2 Apples

  • 2 Tablespoons Sugar

  • 1 Tablespoon Cinnamon

  • 1/2 Cup Water

  • Gluten-Free Crumble
  • 1 Cup Gluten-free Self Raising Flour

  • 1/2 Cup Slivered Almonds

  • 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar

  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla paste or extract

  • 60 Grams Butter

  • To Serve
  • Ice-cream, Cream or both 🙂

Directions

  • Cook the apples
In a medium saucepan, combine 2 chopped apples, 2 tablespoons sugar, 1 tablespoon cinnamon, and ½ cup water.
Cook over medium heat for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft and the liquid has slightly thickened.
  • Make the crumble topping
In a large mixing bowl, combine ½ cup brown sugar and 60 g softened butter, mixing until smooth and well combined.
Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, ½ cup slivered almonds, and 1 cup gluten-free self-raising flour.
Mix with a fork or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. This may take a few minutes — the texture should be crumbly but slightly buttery.
  • Assemble and bake
If your pan is oven-safe, simply sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the cooked apples.
If your pan isn’t oven-safe, transfer the apples to a small baking dish first, then sprinkle the crumble mixture over the top, ensuring the apples are fully covered.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 15–20 minutes, or until the topping is golden and crisp.
  • Serve and enjoy
Serve warm with ice cream, cream, or a combo of both.

Notes

  • Swap apples for pears or stone fruit for a seasonal variation.
