Gluten-Free French Toast

Good French Toast really comes down to the bread. And if you’re gluten-free, or have coeliac disease like me, you know how hard that can be.

However, if you live near Geelong or within driving distance, you need to try a loaf from Geelong Gluten Free. Soft, fluffy, freshly baked gluten-free bread that doesn’t crumble or taste like cardboard is rare, but they’ve nailed it

The best part about French toast is how simple it is. You probably already have everything you need in your pantry/fridge: bread, eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon and butter. Then just top it with icing sugar, maple syrup and a scoop of gluten-free ice cream.

So easy, so delicious!

Ingredients

  • 2 Slices 2 Gluten Free Bread

  • 1 1 Egg

  • 1/2 Cup 1/2 Milk (I used almond)

  • 1 Tsp 1 Vanilla Essence

  • 1/2 Tsp 1/2 Cinnamon

  • Butter for cooking

  • To serve
  • Icing sugar

  • Maple Syrup

  • Ice cream

Directions

  • In a shallow bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, vanilla and cinnamon until well combined.
  • Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add a small amount of butter, allowing it to melt and coat the base of the pan.
  • Dip each slice of gluten free bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are evenly coated. Allow any excess mixture to drip off before placing the bread into the pan.
  • Cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Serve warm with icing sugar, maple syrup and a scoop of gluten free ice cream.

Hi, I'm Celia!

I was diagnosed with coeliac disease in 2022 and have been on a mission ever since to make gluten free food taste just as good as the real thing.
